Actually, St Christopher is the patron saint of travelers!
One could invoke St Anthony (finder of lost articles)
or St Jude (for hopeless cases!)
And Edisone, I understand your worry about this...hope it turns out okay!

It has arrived! Despite being packed by the supposed "experts" at the UPS
Store, it was not properly packed - wrapped in about 6 layers of bubblewrap,
then put in a big box full of 'peanuts'. It should have been double-boxed,
or at least surrounded by planks of foam. I'm amazed that it didn't get
trashed, but the only damage was to a corner of the base (slightly crushed)
and the corresponding corner of the lid (again, just slightly crushed) ...
given the complexity of UPS claims, I probably won't bother.
If this has been refinished, it was done very well & not recently. The
wood is beautiful, inside & out, and most of the metal is shiny and clean.
The metal grille is original - there's just enough 'checking' of the finish
to show it is antique. Enamel on the works is mostly excellent, with just a
few nicks here & there - pin-striping looks original and almost perfect. A
bit of corrosion on the inner, bottom surface of the horn, but otherwise
that's good, too. The Diamond B looks nice - no chips - but here's a weird
thing: the screw on the swivel block is broken near its head, even though
the slot shows no damage from too much screwdriver force. He couldn't have
used this machine very much, because it won't track properly with that screw
snapped off.
I've heard quieter motors, but maybe it just needs some adjustment and
lube - it feels as if some bearings are too tight: I hafta give the mandrel
a push to start it. I'll fiddle with it later, but am looking through my
junk boxes for an extra floating-weight-swivel-screw, or whatever it's
called !

I'm glad it (mostly) worked out well for you. You got a very nice machine.
I'm not so sure I'd be so easy on the seller or UPS re. the packing. The seller promised to have it "professionally" packed and what you got was anything buta professional job. I'd consider noting that in the seller's ebay feedback and I'd also make noise with UPS.
Anyway glad this story has a mostly happy ending and you're not posting that you received a broken up mess.

This is one reason I try to avoid buying machines that need to be shipped, if at all possible (it's unavoidable though, unfortunately). There's a reason why those old shipping crates are sturdier than IKEA furniture!
Is the damage on one of the back corners, at least?
