And lastly, a motor I have just reconditioned for a 12 that is on my to do list to complete. This one can only be screwed to the top of the cabinet ie the base plate is no longer cast with the 4 screw holes.
The distance between the retaining screws at the top to screw to the cabinet are exactly the same as the previous motor (from a 14)
Anyone have a Pathéphone no.12??

Here are some pics of my no. 12. Also, here's a good thread discussing some of the early Pathé's and also showing the toursade horn.

Re: Anyone have a Pathéphone no.12??
thanks!
I was wondering, would this type of motor be "correct" for my machine?, Its probably easier to find than the original one and if it is correct for the Pathéphone no.12 I should be able to live with it!
it has similarities that mine had, my Pathé's original motor had the push/pull start/top at the front of the case and it had the speed control as a knob at the side of the machine, but I don't know if this was used originally on Pathéphone 12's or on cheaper models, if I can find the original motor then that would be perfect but I've got a feeling im going to have to use a correct but not original one. and Valecnik , could you post some pictures of the motor of your machine?

Kirtley, Sure I'll post some pictures of the motor in a couple days or so. I'm not at home now. I'm in Pilsen partaking in the Liberation Days festivities.kirtley2012 wrote:thanks!

Kirtley, no that motor is from an earlier C,D & E model (1906-1909)

Steve wrote: What Kirtley has is the original Modele 12 from about 1908/9, made for the French market. It is a fantastic machine and probably the best model from the second Pathé range (when numbers were introduced for the first time) anyone would find today. The bigger Modeles 14 and 16 are 'Hen's teeth' items. Of course, some years later during the WW1 era (?) Pathé reduced the number range down to about half a dozen numbers and a Modele 180 appeared that, had it existed in 1908 (?) would have been a Modele 18! Phonogalerie has at least one of these awesome beasts.
For the rest of us mere mortals, Kirtleys's '12' is probably the best we can ever expect to find. If it was complete and all original with "pavillon torsade" it would be £2500-3000 machine ($4000-4500)
This one is the probably best I have seen and in original condition. Just over 1200 euro.

Re: Anyone have a Pathéphone no.12??
Yes I saw that one - I was following it with interest. When I saw the horn at first I flipped BUT then came the disappointments of the pictures of the rest of it. Poor condition nickel plating, wet rot to two sections of the cabinet, probably plenty of the continental disease: woodworm too. And it was not a '12' but a '120', a later version with a lesser motor in it. It was ok and the horn was very nice but it was far from great. So Kirtley, you can now see that a below par specimen complete with horn makes over £1000 in the current climate. Maybe you should stick with what you've got and make it a long-term project.
