I wonder if the trowel weight variety suffers
by any noticeable amount from the blasting which
can start up in very loudly recorded spots?

That seems to be one of the limitations when
weight starts being removed. It reaches a point
where blasting becomes a problem.

I haven't noticed blasting being a problem with either this M or a trowel-weighted O. I expect there was a certain amount of experimentation at West Orange in 1910 when record wear unexpectedly became a problem (probably only with the Amberols). Certainly more material could have been eliminated from the weight rather than the two slices close to the hinge. Presumably, it was found that removing only those small areas were sufficient to reduce the wear.
