SBH, are you interested in parting with yours?
Well I shall keep an eye out for one in the hope of bagging a bargain :)

Nope, I looked long and hard for my copy - but even if I did it is at this moment in a shipping container bound for Auckland and I won't see it until December :(

I love the song but I didn't think it would command such prices, $100 or more. I've got it on Columbia by the Hannan Dance band. The flip side is "All about for heaven" by the same band? Obviously sold in France acc. to the stickers on the label.

I have a really nice E+ copy of the Gibbs version that came with, of all things, my Victor XXV. When I can get my hands on it (which may be awhile), I'll gladly transfer it and post it in the audio section.
Swell! :)

I have two versions: the Whiteman and the Isham Jones Brunswick, which even by the standards of distorted light ray sides, takes it to a whole new level. Neither one was owned by my mother :D but it was the Jones version that got her talking about the Charleston.

Sean, thank you for posting the Varsity Eight. Your transfer is excellent and the record is in wonderful condition. Red Nichols is a special favorite of mine, and many a mundane '20s dance record became delightful simply because of his presence in the band.

Regarding the Whiteman version, I seem to remember hearing an alternate master without the vocal hijinks. I heard it once on the web but don't know where to find it. My 1975 Rust's Jazz Records lists take 8 as issued on Vic 19671. No vocalist is listed nor are any alternate takes. Could someone with a later version of Jazz Records please look this up and see if more info is now available?

If there was more info, these folks would probably be on it...

As it is, according to them, it looks like only take 8 was issued.

Thanks for the info. Now I have no idea what it may have been unless a test pressing of another take exists.

Or an aircheck. Even if it seems unlikely that Whiteman would have performed Charleston by the time airchecks of his band begin existing. Though maybe it is buried somewhere in here...

Whiteman also recorded "Charleston" on one of his Grand Award LP's in the late 1950's.

Not at all a bad job either. I recall a purple label Capitol pressing of a late 1940's waxing of "SAN", and believe that it came from a set which also included the Charleston. The Capitol records were more true to the original arrangements than the Grand Award, as I recall, but please note that I.m only relying on fallible memory, as the records in question are long since burnt, as are my discographic notes.
