A cabinet-maker friend of mine was impressed by the factory joinery of my 193 and commented on how tight the fit was on the lid. I asked him about the vents in the back and he suggested that they were simply air vents to provide a little circulation to prevent either mold growth or corrosion of metal parts should the lid be left closed for a long time, especially in damp climates. Since no mechanical or acoustic reason seems obvious, perhaps he's right.
