I have only been attending shows for about a year or so. Saw Mr. Hummel several times but never introduced myself, my loss. He was obviously a highly thought of and well-respected member of the collecting community. Very sad to see him go. My best to his family and friends.

Charley was a major icon in our hobby. He was a treasure of knowledge and had a treasure of phonograph related items he graciously showed to his friends in the hobby whenever there was a show near his home in New Jersey. Our phonograph members will always be grateful for your kindness and generosity to us. Blessings to you and your family and friends. We miss you.

We are very sad to hear this news. Charley was a great and kind man that we will miss greatly.
Lerria and I saw him for many years at Union and always enjoyed talking to him and learning from him.
David was fortunate to get to see his collection and visit with him while at one of the Wayne shows many years ago.
Charley was always happy and cheerfull and a delight to be around, so sad to hear he is gone.
All the best to his family,
David & Lerria Rosamond

My wife Janene and I and my sons Timothy and David are so sad about this news. For decades, Charley was such a dear friend. So kind to our entire family. Had him in our home many times.
Loved talking for hours at Union or having him out to the old CAPS west coast August Show, where we either hosted him for several presentations or we presented together at the banquet. Working on our multiplex cylinder restoration project and presenting at ARSC together was a joy, as was sharing about our mutual philanthropic projects in Africa.
My life is so much richer because of Charley.
Grace and peace to his family.
God speed dear friend,
Michael Khanchalian and family

It was a shock that Charley passed away. I have had dealings with him both on ebay and a couple of times at the old CAPS show. He was very humble and knowledgeable. He always gave me great deals, and expensive items let me do a layaway. Charley and I had one thing in common other than phonographs. He was a fellow Navy Veteran. He was in the Navy from 1959-63. He was on the USS Kitty Hawk as a Petty Officer 3rd class electrician Mate. We would talk about the Navy and reminisce of our deployments. I would always get him Navy items from the exchange and uniform shop. Besides being a fellow phonograph collector, he was a real shipmate.

I will have lots of great memories of my conversations with Charley . I was going through photos that I had taken at various shows and this is one of my favorites with him and Larry Donley. I couldn't quite get Larry to smile as he didn't like to have his picture taken but since it was with Charley it was ok. Going to miss you buddy....Until we meet again and say all of the other phonograph legends......
