Scrub that... the VV-X governor is no where NEAR that of a Vic III.

Hey congratulations! I have the same style Victor sitting on the same style small cabinet. I was told here on the forum it's a Herzog cabinet, just not the very fancy ones. Yours has the original slats which is better than what mine got, which is a later set of flat shelves.

My Vic 3 no longer runs but it's a good display, I just need to find someone to help me with the motor which no longer holds when wound up. I've fought this battle before, fixed it, and am not going to do that again.

By the way those records you sent are excellent.

Well, some of it is for a Victor. The governor shaft and the two weights are correct. The rest is from a Columbia, (I think). You need the third weight and the correct friction disc and the small hub. Hard to say if the governor springs are correct. At the very least, you need a third spring.

That’s why I think the whole governor is wrong, it’s a two spring governor and they’re exactly offset from each other, there’s no space for a third spring and weight…

I suspect the governor shaft is correct; it’s the right length and the worm meshes with the worm wheel, so it looks to me like someone has replaced the other bits with Columbia or other manufacturers parts.
It may work as is, though you could change them to the proper Victor parts when you find them.

The VTLA motor is not the same it’s a 3 spring and the III had a two spring motor. Many parts are likely interchangeable but not the whole motor. Yours looks very fixable and depending on your location there are some really good folk out there who will work on it for you if it gets too challenging to do yourself.

And of course, right you are again. I opened mine up and while I do remember only two barrels, I did not remember that one of them was double

Glad you liked the records! And thanks for the tip, I did a quick search for Herzog Record Cabinets and this link came up

Same door latch, same legs, similar needle cup, very basic indeed. The difference is the back of mine is finished to be presentable so no glued label on the back like the one linked above. Good to know.
Maybe I didn't make out too poorly for $1,000. Still seems like a lot for a setup that's going to require this much work.

I worked on cleaning up the cabinet today, baby steps. I think my next step is to take the barrels off and see what I can do there. I'm tempted to just replace both springs rather than trying to deal with one broken spring and cleaning the other, 120 year old spring. I just know that these motors are a bit trickier to get into and work on than the ones I've been working on. Only one way to learn!

No. It's not the whole governor that's wrong. If the correct Victor parts were mounted on your correct Victor governor shaft, there would be a place for the third weight, (two of which you now have).

The circled parts are the only ones that are wrong.

Right you are, I thought that screw was a set screw to attach that bottom collar but of course that collar has to be able to drift up the shaft.
