Bruce ~ That is EXACTLY my kind of thinking!

If your machine has an automatic brake moved by a rod on the tone arm (like my Credenza) disengage it before using fibre needles. The drag of the brake increases the needle wear. With the brake finger out of the way I can play several good sides with one needle before repointing.

I actually removed mine some time ago as it was causing more problems than it was solving! Good info to know, though, so thank you for the tip!

I'd never actually remove the one on my Credenza, it's easy to disengage it by slipping it from under the rod and then pushing it aside. I still use it when I'm using steel needles & want a side to play while I'm upstairs.
