Oh, I "get it" too John, but what I
also get is that when the biggest thread on the board is aimed at pointing out peoples mistakes & lack of knowledge, and it's constantly in your face, it's very discouraging for new members & lurkers to want to ask questions & contribute to topics because they live in fear of feeling foolish, being embarrassed or being looked down upon by the
superior minds of the forum.
Then when someone joins & asks a question, along with the answer they get a spelling & grammar lesson to highlight their mistake & make them feel small, so they simply never return.
And why would they when they're also reminded at the same time to remember the power of google.
Do you get it?

No, I think you are clueless and worried to death that I'm going to point out one of your frequent spelling mistakes. Rest assured, I won't. You seem to think that you are the moral center of this board and repeatedly voice your opinion about whatever subject bothers you for whatever reason. Again, my opinion is just as valid as your opinion which is as valid as any other member of this board. If something important like a brand name is misspelled, I'm going to gently correct it for the very reason you state -- so that lurkers, beginners, denizens, whoever will not receive bad information. Likewise in the Craigslist thread I will continue to point out Craigslist listings that are for whatever reason sub-par in content. My opinion is that there is something to be learned from the lack of accuracy of these posts and that they are frequently funny. Your opinion is that they have no value and are not funny. Opinions are like a**-****s, everybody has one. Nothing qualifies you to speak for anyone but yourself. Control yourself and don't read the thread if you don't like it.

More of a curiosity than to point out the seller's lack of information: obviously it's a recorder top with a Model H reproducer weight, but what's the other thing with the patent dates? Looks like a sewing machine patent plate that covers the bobbin access to me.

Yep, that plate is from a Singer. Worth a couple of bucks as they pop out of place and get lost.

I don't have any funny Craigs List adds but I did see a good one about 2 weeks ago on eBay. The seller was offering: "16 genuine victrola needles for only $7.00"

Here's a brief excerpt from a current listing on St. Louis Craigslist:
"Forgot the brand but has the dog on the back singing into a phonograph".

Poor Nipper is getting his fair share of abuse lately!
From an Orlando Craigslisting:
"Set of 15 Victor/Victrola 78 speed One sided Gramophone or Phonograph records from the Victor catalog. Victor maintained this logo/record style from 1902-1910 so ca. 1905
There are 3 types in this set ranging from an original price of $1.00 (black), $1.25 (purple), and $3.00 (red) and all have the classic Victor/RCA "His Master's Choice" Logo with the words - "AWARDED FIRST PRIZE BUFFALO, ST. LOUIS and PORTLAND EXPOSITIONS." at top of each record. All but 3 records appear to be in Excellent condition, 3 are cracked."

Sounds like a name for a premium dog food. "His master's choice".
