Yes, they're a steel needle called Trailer needles. They look a little bit like a bent spear tipped needle but the underside of the tip is also V shaped to ride in the groove. I guess this was to distribute the stylus pressure over a larger surface area of the groove. They also work quite well with an electric pick-up on acetates.
The picture below shows a couple different packets they came in, & a blurb at the bottom of the kiddy record section in the 1952 HMV record catalogue. There's a couple needles there too, but my cheap camera is pretty hopeless at close-ups, so you wont see them in any great detail.
I'm not sure if Victor made these too, but I don't think they did??

Oh ok, I recall a discussion on trailer needles a while back. If there is Victor version I haven't run across any yet.
Thanks for the info!

Actually, you are both wrong on this one. "Whined up" is the new term used for a phonograph converted into a liquor or wine cabinet! : )

may,23,1916.It is sittin in
my shed.
This has been in my uncles shed since i was a kid. i think he said it was from 1927. it's actually a westrola stand up model. the sound is so clever and clear. This is a non electric item and makes noise directly throug a brass funnel the is then directed to the lower cabinet for noise enhancement. please contact me(text onlyp) at 314-650-3201. the one person i talked to about it said that the floor model is worth five times more in todays value than the table top ones they also produced. unfortunately the one i have is not in that great of condition buth the noise piece sound perfect and we also have records tht go to it so you can hear for yourself. (the one i saw on line in perfect condition was sselling for over 14k but i have to also confes that a dealer will think it is in too bad of shape to consider placing in their store front. both cabinet doors close and have original mesh and accents but the wood is peeling around bottom of legs and main cabinet due to outdoor weathering. but other than that it looks great in our family room but the lady of the house says its time to go.

I personally like this description. "Noise enhancement" feature included
