Thank you... I was channeling my inner-Disney.

Actually, I am wearing rather unusual and rare ears in this picture (which you cannot really see). I had just fulfilled, the day the picture was taken, a lifelong dream of being able to dine at the private Club 33 in Disneyland. I was so thrilled, I had to wear my Club 33 monogrammed ears for a picture outside the club door.
Perhaps TMI, but I thought I might explain why a woman of my, um, maturity is wearing ears (other than the fact that they're just plain fun).

I've only read one disparaging comment on Tink's picture, and that was on the UK Gramophone board- so it wasn't said by anyone with an opinion that really matters.

Well, you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.
That being said, I don't know if I'm supposed to be flattered or insulted.

The fact that anyone is mentioning me on the UK Gramophone board is curious, as I've never even visited their site. I suppose some people just have too much time on their hands...

Tink,
I among many others are more than willing to answer your "noob questions" as you call them, any time.
The problem is that for me to do that your question must be on something I at least have a clue about. Most everything I know about Tungstone needles I've learned on this thread.
I've been at this collecting thing a long time too. Just goes to show that you don't have to be a "newbie" to be clueless on any particular topic
PS: Being largely an Edison collector, there's not much need to learn about needles. If one is defective. you either turn/replace the sapphire/diamond as the case may be and don't worry about it for another 80 years or so.

1926 Credenza: you covered everything, and quite well!
I use Tungstones on my 10-50 as I've said many times before. The real key to a long life for one as well as for your Victor records is to only play Victors that aren't really trashed. You're spot on about other brands of records, they don't seem to deal well with many others, but then I've got some nice Brunswicks and VT Colubias in my 10-50 (all dupes I keep just for these machines) that have held up just fine. Put a disc on that's already got worn grooves and you can watch the Tungstone stylus dig right in and tear it up even further.
I've got the exact same Everplay box and needles you have, Gramophone78, mine came very cheaply off Ebay several years ago and has 8 (9 if you count the one I opened) needles and a bunch of order forms and promo fliers. I use an Everplay that I opened up on and off, been using the same one for 5 years, in fact. I really like it, same tone as a half tone steel needle in my experience. I've never tried it on anything but my 10-50, but it sure sounds great on that when I put it in and it's perfectly gentle on 78s. The only caution I'd mention about the Everplay is making the tip too long, if you do that, they bend and you have to snip it off and start over. I only had to do that once. The card they come mounted on suggests using the thickness of the card as a suggested legnth for the point.
Anyway, my $.02 here.

Yeah, I know of another "set" as well. Pretty sure Carsten is the one in San Fran who bought that other box, I was the underbidder. I plan on keeping all of mine together as well. The one I "opened" was pretty much already open anyway, so I decided to use it occasionally. Neat stuff!

I saw that, and more. Ah... the UK boards. Do they not know we read their boards as well?

I don't know about you guys, but I welcome the noob questions. It doesn't bother me at all, and if I can help someone new to the hobby- great! Heck, if anything, I want
more people in this hobby!
One more thing, Tinkerbell. Don't ever play the blue-label Columbia "New Process" records with a Tungs-tone. When I did, it ruined the tip REALLY quick!
Thank you 1926, both for the sense of welcome for newcomers to the hobby, and for the tip regarding blue label Columbia records.
I actually located and visited the British Gramophone forum yesterday and, ahem, introduced myself.
