Thanks for the compliments on the Brunswick model 35. I found it locally and had no idea if the price was good or bad, but I liked it so I bought it. I got it from the grandson of the original owner. He said it had been moved once in it's life....from the grandfather's house to his house 25 years ago. It came with the key, a record duster from the store that sold it (the machine also has the stores decal under the lid), and some Brunswick records that actually had the same dealer's store advertised on the label. I drove as slow as I could go to get it home and had it wrapped like a mummy.

I do love these Puritans...one of these days when I find a bigger house (to go along side that flat top Pooley I want).

Love that Sonora, what fantastic grain in the timber. I prefer the oak in the larger cabinets, they look so muck better than the Mahogany.
That upside down gramophone is a strange looking machine, I have never seen one in person it must be fairly rare.

Puritans are not common but they aren't really rare. For a peculiar design they seem to have had decent sales. Models like the one shown seem to be the most sought after but they made a variety of case styles.

The Sonora Cabinets were the work of the "Herzog Art Cabinet Co." of Saginaw, Michigan. They made these unusual and ornate Cabinets exclusively for Sonora's line of "bulge sided" Models like the Elite. Herzog is also well known for its half barrel, and rarer full barrel Cylinder Cabinets.

My last belated entry to the best finds of 2008, would be Edison Amberola V Phonograph. You may have heard the story already, but I came across this find quite by accident. I attended an estate auction and there were many phonographs, many dealers were there and they were bidding up on the some of the phonographs that I was interested in, so I didn't buy any of those phonographs and but ended up with some nice cylinders both 2 minute wax and some 4 minute blue amberols. When the auctioneer announced that all the phonographs had been sold all of the dealers got up and cashed out and left. After purchasing a few more boxes of cylinders, I also got up and was standing in line to cash out when the auctioneer announced that there was one more phonograph that was missed as it was under a table way up the back of the auction hall. His assistant held it up , and it looked like an Edison Amberola V, but I had no Idea about condition or anything else. Anyway I took a chance and ended up with it for $116 including the dreaded 15% buyers premium. Here it is on You Tube playing Ada Jones' "By the Light of the Silvery Moon".
