We had our own version of those two near me. A*nold was once known for ripping the cuckoo out of a cuckoo clock at an antique shop, then buying it for a big discount when the missing cuckoo was pointed out to the shop owner. (He also also did me the favor of removing a crank from my Edison Concert.)Sidewinder wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2024 5:18 am
Some people may remember St*phen & D*nnis from many years back - who allegedly stole pieces off items at auction - prolifically - to depress the prices. I believe they were eventually blacklisted from all the leading auction houses. D*nnis was the more enigmatic of the 2.

That's Donley in the USA, and don't forget Stanton Auctioneers, also in the USA.

But just taking the cuckoo out of a cuckoo clock. That's so cuckoo!

Back on the market this morning but without apology or any mention of the missing soundbox. It would also have been good to see inside the record storage area but the key is probably lost !

Even without the soundbox the new pre-sale estimate is very low, so anyone with the right soundbox...............

I find it astonishing that, even with a gramophone in their sale, emblazoned with the word "Gramophone" on it, they STILL manage to spell that word incorrectly!
