This recording is the last one ever made by the Peerless Quartet, or so I've been told. I guess this kind of music was considered old fashioned in the late 1920's. A real shame.
If You See Sally, sung by the Peerless Quartet, recorded March 18, 1927 and issued on Victor 20571-A.
Enjoy!

Re: If You See Sally ~ The Peerless Quartet
This is the late version of the Peerless, of which Burr was the only remaining member from their golden days.
Yes, I think this music was pretty old fashioned by the mid-late 20's. Even today, it seems to me that collectors that are interested in these trio and quartet records are few.
But I like them a lot.
Used to actively collect them (Peerless, American, Columbia Stellar, Haydn, etc.)But I've slowed down since I have so many now.

Re: If You See Sally ~ The Peerless Quartet
This is one of my favorite Henry Burr recordings, solo or otherwise. Old-fashioned and sentimental, yes, but no one could sing with more feeling and control than he. I think he adapted his singing style to electric recording much better than others, including Billy Murray.

Re: If You See Sally ~ The Peerless Quartet
There's some Peerless Quartet records that were remade electrically right on the precipice of the switch.
Something like Where The Silvery Colorado Wends It's Way was recorded about 1924, and re-recorded (electrically) a year or so later, and Burr's voice sounds virtually the same. It doesn't seem he had to modify his style or approach at all.
I wonder if there's a collector out there who would ever set himself to collect all 5,000 or so discs and cylinders that Henry Burr (also Harry McClaskey, Irving Gillette) has been claimed to have appeared on.

Henry Burr sounds the same on both acoustic and electric recordings.
This is a gem of a record!
