I bought this Pathé Portable http://flic.kr/s/aHsjCbdmXQ at my local Vide Grenier (car boot sale) on Sunday. I ended up getting him down to €35, from the 40 he asked for. I'd have been in a stronger negotiating position if my partner had been scowiling and asking me to explain why excactly I needed another gramophone and telling me "I don't mind you having a hobby, but what I object to is you filling the house with junk."
To be honest I think she has a point. Neither of the sound boxes work - the Odéon one more or less does, but needs a new gasket. The Pathé sound box needs a lot more than a quick rub with Solvol Autosol. Then the motor either has a broken spring or it's detatched from the barrel.
I think I'll have hours of fun with it but I'll probably be asking a few questions here along the way.

I wasn't even looking for a gramophone, honest! I was just looking - mainly for records.kirtley2012 wrote:i shall have to keep my eye open for one of those!
