Storage Wars

Post by Retrograde »

My kids were watching an old episode of Storage Wars (one of those staged treasure finding reality shows), and they yelled to me "hey Dad, the guy found some old records!". So I watched the clip. Yes, the guy found some old records, they were 1940s/1950s 78s in album sets, but nothing of value that I could see. There was a etched label DD in there too. But what caught my eye was not a 78, it was a particular book on the pile of records. :D

This screen shot is from Storage Wars season 1, episode 10 about 9 minutes in to the program. They only show the book for a second or two.

I think I saw that episode. The guy was all exited and though he would made tons of money. He brought the records to some vintage record store and there they told him he would get about 10-20$ per album set. It got really funny when the "expert" saw the Edison DD with etched label. He claimed this was very valuable and "real collectors" would pay about $100 for that one DD

So often the real treasure is overlooked.

I think that guy is a calculated idiot - I'm convinced he makes questionable choices on purpose.

Then again, all of them play to the camera shamelessly. I'm certain that when the film crew isn't there they behave differently.

I can't even watch this show. I've caught a few episodes at the gym while on the treadmill, and the whole thing is so nauseatingly phony that I don't even know how it's lasted as long as it has.
