Popular/Famous 1920's bands

Post by ImperialGuardsman »

Pandora.com is a great place to listen to music, but doesn't seem to have a 1920's playlist. What are some 1920's-ish era bands that are really well known? I hope that I can get around the lack of playlist by seeking out specific preformers/bands.

Thanks.
Nicholas.

There is a tremendous amount of 20's music on Youtube (as well as any other era you may want).
Simply go to Youtube.com and search for a favorite period band; Paul Whiteman, George Olson, King Oliver, blues, jug bands, etc. Then just follow the links. You will hear and sometimes see film clips of amazing material you've never heard of. They have rare film of such performers as Annette Hanshaw, Lee Morse, even super rare sound footage of Bix with the Whiteman orch. I can easily go on for 2 or 3 hours at a time hours at a time.

I used to listen to something called radio dismuke, and that would play 20's and 30's music. I don't know if it still does though

You might also want to check out the British Dance Band Encyclopedia here- http://www.mgthomas.co.uk/Dancebands/index.htm

There's stacks of info on just about every British dance band from the 20s & 30s that recorded, along with label information, pseudonyms used by artist on different labels & much more.
