Edison K vs C&H reproducers

In your opinion, how does a Edison K combination reproducer compare sound wise to a separate C and H reproducer?

I like the K reproducer better. All you have to do is lift the carriage and turn the swivel bar to change styli. It's much easier than changing the reproducers.

Do you find that individual reproducers have better sound quality than the k or are they the same?, also, how much does a k usually cost?

A good K sounds just as good as a C or H. I like the K because of the convenience. A good,rebuilt K will go for $250.00 - $300.00. Yes, they are expensive, but worth it. They also add value to the machine.

The K is a very good reproducer. Compared to a C or H, many of the parts are the same, the diaphragm is the same size but the linkage is different to accommodate the rotating needle bars. A model K will work as well as either a C or H in their respective applications, however, it does rattle slightly because one of the needle bars is always idle, but is still moving because both are always connected at the link regardless of which is in use at the time. This effect is minor, but it deserves mentioning. I have heard that later ones had a spring around the linkage between the needle bar ends and the diaphragm to keep everything snug but I've never seen one equipped that way.
In a word, though, I would advise you to save your money and purchase a good C and H unless you want it for a Gem D or Fireside A which would have been originally equipped with a model K.

Hi, I have just aquired a model K and I have several models C and H's but I was very pleased with the reproduction of the model K and thought it was even better.
