VTLA's A Plenty?

Post by earlyjukeman »

I don't know if others have noticed it but there seems to be a lot of uncommon machines showing up in non-collector hands. I started collecting in the 1970's and when I went to a house sale the whole place was like a time warp from the last century where all the furniture and phonographs were right where they sat since new. Victrolas were everywhere. Back then I never saw an early VTLA like posted here but in the past year I saw three for sale and got one from the original family. I think some unscrupulous phonograph collector has messed up the space time continuum and all the rare machines are showing up. Now that I think of it there was an Edison M on ebay last year with a flux capacitor looking thing on it. Hmmmmm? 88 RPM? Anyway here are two that I got recently. The VTLA is s/n# 4245 and I had a full set of boxes without the letters on them for 20 years but sold them a few years ago thinking that I would never find the machine. DOH! It's not as nice but was just a half hour away. I do have the gold reproducer for it. The other is a 1932 RCA 84 which was advertised to be the more common though rare RAE 59 but much to my delight this is what showed up on my doorstep and it WORKS. Strange days are comming....
