This 1925 recording has seen it's better days, a lot of use, missing plaster and somewhat out of round. Still it's one of my favorites. Also available on diamond disc.

maybe the solution is a new sub-forum for all the miss-categorized postsgramophoneshane wrote:May I ask why this is in the UK machines section?
(I'm all for keeping the forum as simple as possible, i. e. fewer ways for people to dork things up.)
On topic... great tune there Valecnik.

Ah, so here you are!
Great music that. I don't know much about jazz but I really enjoy the (roughly) pre-1930's stuff. It was genuine musical giftedness untrammelled by the set and standardised norms and musical expectations of years later when it had "settled down" more. There's a "music for music's sake" spirit about the thing that is so life giving to listen to. They were trail blazers.
Thanks again. Enjoyed that.

Is that a black blue amberol? Or is it just dark blue?
Can you play wax amberols on that machine with a suitable reproducer?
Great music!

Very nice and very hot! I like this one better than the diamond disc one on youtube. Of course, the diamond disc one seems to be just a tad slow.

It could be just the recording methods used, I would guess the DD would normally sound better if done with the same camera, mic as I used for example..ImperialGuardsman wrote:Very nice and very hot! Dark blue: the color often varied, according to atmospheric conditions when dyeing the celluloid.dd2u wrote:Is that a black blue amberol? Or is it just dark blue?

Great music!
And according to the catalogues, all of the early (pre - 1915) Amberolas could be fitted with a sapphire reproducer for wax Amberols, if so desired.

Yes you can see the sapphire "Model L" reproducer setting in the back right corner of the machine in some frames.Lucius1958 wrote:Dark blue: the color often varied, according to atmospheric conditions when dyeing the celluloid.dd2u wrote:Is that a black blue amberol? Or is it just dark blue?
