Herzog 710 Cylinder Cabinet Needs Shelves

Post by Curt A »

Does anyone have patterns for the cabinet shelves and the door shelves? Also, is there a source for solid wood to make the shelves from, instead of plywood?

The original shelves were made from ¼ inch birch plywood. It's readily available at places like Lowe's.

I have a pair of shelves for a cylinder cabinet. That's why asked for a photo hoping they were a match. The shelves I have appear to be the same as Ripfuf1's oak cabinet that is shown in the Trader section. Jerry

Someone sent me a hand drawn template for the door shelves several years ago and it turned out that is was the wrong size. What I did, and recommend, is create your own template from ¼" MDF and then use is as a router template for the shelves.

You do not want to use solid wood, you want plywood as it is much more stable. The ¼" stuff you can find at home cheapo is not very good as it is a very low quality core and stack up (probably only 3 layers). Find ¼" Baltic (or Russian) birch plywood. It has more layers (7) and is more stable. a 5'x5' sheet should run less than $30.

The pegs are on 2.75" centers. I determined the peg pattern from pictures. Be sure to allow a little extra clearance for the support bar on the door shelves.

You can see how I did my shelves in the pictures here http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... lit=herzog

In thread is a link to more pictures of the job.

I may have one original cabinet shelf (sans pegs).

Post pictures!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies. I have been busy with our show, which took place the first weekend of March, in Charlotte, NC and some follow-up details. I will try to get pics of the cabinet asap. I did find one set of numbers stamped on the inside of the door, which looked like "661". I don't know what this refers to - model, serial..?
