Can someone tell me what is correct?

This obviously incorrect one is what I have:

Unless your motor has been modified, I believe you need a gold female crank. Could you post a photo of your motor? Jerry

Thanks Jerry, I have a picture in the thread I linked in my first post. The thing I'm wondering are the dimensions of the crank, I see 2 on ePay, but I don't know what the proper length should be.

Here it is:

My XVI has a male threaded crank. I will give you the dimensions for whatever it might be worth, but it looks like yours would instead have a female end on the rod where it attaches to the motor. There was a switch from female to male crank ends about 1914 amd serial #108,201.

It should have a gold-plated crank. Using my XVI, which has the original crank as a guide, there is an end threaded rod that (measured from the INSIDE of the first bend) is 6 ½". Measuring from the center of the first bend to the center of the second, the next portion is roughly 4 ½". The final segment is roughly 2 ¾" from the center of the last bend to the end of the handle, which is black wood and takes up the last 2 inches of that distance. The rod is substantial, about ⅜” in diameter.

Maybe someone who has an earlier one with a female crank can say if those dimensions are otherwise the same.

Hi fran604g!

Sorry that this post didn't register with me earlier. My XVI is #104077 G with the female crank. Using Clay's measuring technique, this crank is:

from female end to middle of first bend: 10 ¾"
from mid first bend to mid second bend: 4 ½"
from mid 2nd bend to end of crank: 2 ¾"

female end diameter looks about 7/16"
(The Victor Data Book lists these cranks as 5/16" which looks to be an inside diameter measurement)

EDIT: After taking a look at the motor, I'm pretty sure this won't work for you. In the intervening years since I rebuilt it, I had got to thinking mine was like yours. Mine is, however, the motor with the 3 single barrels. *sigh* Somebody out there has to have one of the proper type! Again, good luck. -M

When I measure the one that came with my machine yours is closer than Martinola's, if I knew how far the handle should protrude from the side, I could be more sure of the first measurement.

Mine measures 5-⅝" to the center of the first bend and only 2-¾" from there to the end of the crank where the handle is riveted with a 2-¾" inch dowel for the wood grip.

Another note; the final reduction coupling nut only allows for about ½" internal thread depth, causing the handle to only be able to capture about 2 threads on the motor winding shaft...I don't like that.

On mine, the distance from the cabinet opening trim to the middle of the first curve, when the crank is installed, is approximately 1 ¼".

Perhaps somebody who has one with the female end can speak to it, or even put up a picture, but the one you have now does not look to me to be original, but maybe something somebody may have cobbled together.

Thanks Clay, I'm hoping to keep this thread alive until some can, at least, post a picture of one.

I've come across several posts here that reference the exact one I need, but no pictures have I found. I know for sure that the crank I have isn't proper. I read that the original cranks were prone to breakage, so I assume that mine was a replacement someone put together, but I have no idea how old it may be or where it may have come from. It looks to be pretty old, but the coupling nuts probably aren't.
