Amberola III on eBay - a new Twist

Post by Slaton »

In the catgegory of a never ending saga, here is a new twist on the Amberoa III. If you recall, the seller told me that if I won all of the items, then she will "give you the cabinet and everything else that goes with it." Well, when I won 6 out of the 7 (1 item was unsold and I offered to buy it), she came back with an "offer" of additional 500 dollars for the cabinet and lid. I replied with a pretty firm, "no way, Jose" reply and said I would expect her to keep her end of the deal.

Well, now she has come back saying that she is canceling all of the 7 bids and relisting as entire machine...see her "principled" stance below! What a scream! I guess she wants to get a higher return than what she got...this is adding stupidity on top of greed?

Enjoy the read below:-) Anil

Dear xxxx

I am going to cancel all the auction you won and realist the machine as one unite. I hope you understand . I already told the guy who won the horn i wasn't going to sell it. I will give you your refund back. I hope you understand i am just doing the right thing. It not about the money now. Regards Lelani

Well, Anil, no good deed goes unpunished does it?

I choose to look at it this way: your actions and the actions of other concerned collectors (through non-bidding and appealing to the seller not to break up the machine) have ultimately saved the machine - although I won't consider it truly safe until it is out of the hands of this unprincipled, unbalanced, poisoned woman. (She clearly thinks she might get more money buy offering it whole. If she doesn't, perhaps she'll auction it a third time, in pieces again...)

But you've fought the good fight, and now it appears as if the machine will be auctioned as it should have been originally. I don't understand how the seller can abrogate her legal contract to you and the Australian buyer, but that's for eBay to sort out (if it chooses to do so...). :?

Wow. That sick, unprincipled, manipulative witch has a future in politics. Some people live to inflict misery on others. Don't try to understand why.

Cancel it after money has been paid? I don't think eBay allows that kind of chicanery. This is one seriously greedy seller. But I think she got more for the parts than she will get for the whole, so I doubt the story is over.

As I stated many posts ago. A man very close to where the machine is......walked away from dealing with it. The seller posted the "win all" to get the cabinet very carefully and knows enough to know she can ask whatever she wants for the unsold lid. Most unfortunate.Did it ever occur to the members that she also is reading these posts??.
She clearly is no fool. Her Ebay listing have "Opera" and even "School" in them. Someone who has done "some" homework.

Did any of the members think (even with good intentions) offering an inflated price for the "parts" can now open the door to each and every non collector "seller" doing their homework that happens to find a nice rare machine to now sell as "parts" any machine they find to maximize their $$$$??.

The point is....sometimes "good intentions" can have an adverse effect. Sorry, just playing the devil's advocate here.

This saga is odd in the extreme. And whether or not she's reading these posts, some collector is feeding her info: what uncoached non- collector would think of parting out the machine in thje first place? Or even know how to disassemble it? The whole business is fishy to me.

I guess I don't agree. In my opinion the "good intentions" had anything but an adverse effect. The seller fully intended to part it out before any intervention here or elsewhere. While the attempts to save the machine did not go in the direction that was hoped, i.e. purchasing the sum of the parts for at a price roughly equal to the value of the machine, she has, at least temporarily changed course and indicated that she'd decided to sell it has a whole? If in the end, she changes her mind again and the machine is parted out, the result is the same as if nobody had intervened. How would "walking away" have brought a better result? :monkey:

Assuming the seller now breaks Ebay selling rules and contract now on "completed" sales and re-lists it "whole". It would not at all be out of character for her to "flip flop" now would it.... .

Nope, You are right there. No matter how or for what price she sells it she's probably going to be convinced there would have been a way to get another couple bucks doing it differently and change her mind again.
