A copy of Diamond Disc #51542, Charleston, by the Golden Gate Orchestra is now up to $115.50, with a day to go. I had planned to bid, but a bit rich for me I think.

In my opinion, the very last acoustic Diamond discs have a clarity that no others have. You can hear the brilliance and presence so vivid, compared to shad
ow of others acoustic recordings.

I couldn't agree more. The best sound from many edisons is the late acoustic things that are so clear and free from distortion that at first I thought they were possibly electric recordings.. To my ear many of the very expensive electrics are far worse in total effect. What you gain in some pleasant passages you often loose with the harsh and distorted louder sounds. I am quite content with the late acoustics and frankly almost any period of Edisons can have excellent sound. But the latter ones are the more impressive over all.
As to the record in question, isn't that the same fellow who is selling multiple copies of unplayed records? I received some but quit bidding on them after finding many had excessive noise from most likely storage conditions. And I got a couple with literally holes in them or serious damage. He refunded my money but it ended my purchases.

I have a wrecked copy (got scrod on eebay, dammit) and a nice copy (no idea from whence it came - I moved a pile of records in the front room and there it was!) ... but ya know, I wouldn't sell it, even for $394. Well, maybe the wrecked copy...
