Oak Amberola V For Sale - $500

Post by Jerry B. »

I am selling an oak Amberola V. The case is nice and it plays perfectly but you can see from the photos that the mechanism was painted silver. You will see two photos of the gear cover. One is a "before" photo and the second shows the gear cover after 15 minutes using a cloth and some lacquer thinner. If you are interested, call quickly because that silver is driving me crazy and I'm about to dig into the project and when I'm done it will be more than a $500 machine. It's $500 delivered to Union "as is" or probably $700 looking like a million bucks. Jerry Blais - 541-990-0781

Jerry,

Nail polish remover, (acetone?), works great to remove spray paint overcoats. It will only rarely affect the original finish. That being said, test a small area. I've had great success with this.

Why in the world would someone paint this silver? It would be like painting a Lemmon Peeler black

Thanks for the acetone tip. I might try that method. I started taking things apart today. I can't imagine why anyone would paint the mechanism. Even the piano hinge for the lid was painted. Part like the crank and lid support were also painted. Jerry

I've started the restoration process so I'm going down that road. I'll post photos when it's finished. Jerry
