Question about a Victor 78 record ??

Post by briankeith »

I just found two near perfect RCA Victor "SPECIAL PURPOSE SERIES" records that say "NOT FOR SALE". Were these actually promo records like the DJ's used back in the 1950's and 60's. Just curious. They both have white labels and look new. I assume they are not scare.

Exactly, they're radio station pressings. They were usually pressed on very high quality vinyl. I prefer them to commercial pressings of the same era. Most aren't rare, but some are collected for the reason I stated above, the quality is better and they sound much better than their commercial counterparts.

I have one of these white label RCA's 78's that's from as late as 1954. They can sound nice, especially when cut from a hi-fidelity tape source.
