Edison Fireside Project

Post by Jerry B. »

I initially offered this Fireside on the Forum but I think I'll keep it and put it in working order. I'd like to find:
One long piece of lid molding
All the case and lid hardware to attach the lid & cabinet
gear cover

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Progress photos are soon to follow. Thanks, Jerry

Please excuse me for bumping this to the top but I'd like to find:

Long piece of lid molding (George V. does not have this piece.)
All the hardware to attach the lid to the cabinet
Gear cover

Thanks, Jerry

Here are some photos showing the cleaned mechanism and stripped cabinet. I would estimate an investment of 1.5 hours on the mechanism. It was disassembled, cleaned, and oiled. The top works now spin freely. I have about the same amount of time in stripping the cabinet. The total cost so far is a package of 0000 steel wool, a bit of Kotton Klenser (applied with an old sock), and some denatured alcohol plus some time. Jerry

Jerry,
It's looking good. For the piece of molding you need for the lid, a good wood worker should be able to make one for you. I'm sure there is one in your area, or Portland.

Jerry, you may have better luck finding parts by posting a "wanted" ad in YT..... ;).

I moved the thread from YT at Jerry's request, since he will be posting updates to his project.

Does that mean Jerry can't post a ad in YT for the parts he seeks as well??. I suggested that only because that is where members look at "wanted & buying". However, I could be wrong when it's related to an on going restoration project....

The Fireside sat on the Trader for sale and nobody took advantage of the opportunity. It sat for a few more days with my parts wanted portion with no results. I asked to have the thread moved to the "Machine" section so I could post photos of the restoration. The parts I need are incidental to the operation of the machine and I'm happy to wait until I run into them. Thanks, Jerry

I think my point is getting lost here. I'm not trying to make this a debate either. I suggested what I did because running an ad in YT for the needed parts "as well" would not be lost as quickly as it will in our "machines" section. We all know how fast this section moves..... Compared to YT.....it's on "high speed"... Anyway, that was my thought on this.
