No kidding... :roll:. They added more holes to the case than Swiss cheese. They even removed the id plate...???. So, the lid is finished and the bottom is not much better. The column parts are very corroded. So, I guess you get a crank. That is of course it's the right crank. The gold on it looks weak or painted....??. Oh yeah, I almost forgot....they used part of the pitch control as the on/off switch.

That might have brought a lot of joy to some people. Some poor farmer's family or what have you.

You are right.

It is easy for today's collectors to forget that,in the not too distant past,such a machine would have been considered valueless and originality would not have been considered at all. Anything which could be done to extend it's useful life would have been acceptable, and the thought that it might one day be a collector's item would never have entered the owner's head.

Yeah. From the looks of the tonearm and wiring, I think the job of "updating" this phonograph was done a LONG time ago.
