OK, "interesting" is stretching it a bit, but I haven't seen this very dark brown colour before...

Is that a regular colour, a replacement, or some other colour that's faded?
EDIT: this is the brown you normally find...

...maybe the other one is just very dirty?!
Cheers,
David.

Re: Interesting colour 101
According to the Oakley/Proudfoot book this is Antique Brown, one of the colours offered in 1928, and yes this example certainly needs a good clean.
With a view to bidding I made enquiries as to it's mechanical condition, but the reply was non-commital, so I did not bid and neither did anyone else.

The picture is so bad it looks like TEAK on my screen! If only it was! It's Dave Smith selling it and he says it is "working".
The brown 101 is not especially rare unlike a BROWN 102 which is getting to be a Hen's Teeth item. Do not confuse the two!

The brown crocodile 101 is David Smith's, but the antique brown 101 under discussion is not. David does not live in West Yorkshire!Steve wrote:The picture is so bad it looks like TEAK on my screen! If only it was! It's Dave Smith selling it and he says it is "working".

I see. Yes, the one I was looking at was Dave Smith's machine and priced £150. The other 101 at half the price didn't sell at all and was just dirty. Still, it was not expensive.

I'm surprised it didn't sell for £79. That seems like a reasonable price, especially over here in the US.

I agree. Some folks here don't just want the stone, they want the blood out of it!

Re: Interesting colour 101
I looked long and hard at it, but decided in the end that the scrapes on the covering could not have been disguised satisfactorily, and no matter what the price, it would have annoyed me every time I looked at it. For the same reason, I recently sold a grey 101, which was in brilliant condition, but parts of the covering had changed colour over the years, and the two-tone effect was so annoying, I sold it on. I bet I'll never see another!

As a retired tax man I am living proof that you CAN get blood out of a stoneSteve wrote:I agree. Some folks here don't just want the stone, they want the blood out of it!
