Vic-I data plate position

Post by whoopinola »

The data plate on most rear mount Victors seems to be found on the side opposite the back mount . My early Vic-I has the data plate on the side opposite the crank. Was this a common location for the ID tag? The print date on the licence sheet on the bottom is 1902

Yep - that's typically where the data plate is mounted on the early Victor I.

What a lovely little machine. Was the ID position a hold over from the front mount era? Jerry

Yep, my early Vic I also has the data plate opposite the crank, just as yours is placed.

The Gramophone & Typewriter Company import of this machine, the "New Victor", also placed its gold transfer in exactly the same position. However, the UK supplied machine also has a bright red banner transfer with Nipper on the front of the cabinet. I believe that was the first use of Nipper on a G & T / HMV machine?

As a point of interest.....here in Canada Berliner made a machine exactly like this and called it a "KT". Sweet little machine. Oh, he placed the tag on the front.....
