Victor Dealer Advertising sign

Post by ColoradoPhonograf »

Hi all,
I thought I would share a photo of a lithograph advertising sign we found while driving across country back east. It measures about 14" x 20". My wife and I came across a small antique store out in the middle of nowhere. After buying this I asked the guy if he had anything else phono related, he went into the back room and came back with a Vic. V missing the turntable and horn, it was a no-brainer price so my wife was thrilled with the sign, since she collects Nipper items, and I had a new project machine. It was a good vacation after that.

One of my personal favorite signs. It took me years and $$$ and little more $$$ to get a near mint one. Good to see it has the original black wood frame. I believe they were offered frame-less to dealers also. I've been told (so don't know for sure) there was a even fancier gold frame available.

Great sign-- I haven't seen many of them. I bought one in the early 80's from the store room of an old drugstore in Glen Echo, MD. It wasn't a bargain, but is in great condition. I've seen two others in person-- One in Charley Hummel's collection and one at the Eldridge Johnson Museum in Deleware. All had the plain black frame-- I haven't heard that another frame was utilized. Nice catch!!!

Thanks for the information about the frame. I wasn't sure but it appeared to be set into that frame in a proper manner a long time ago.
