How to install the START lever on a Columbia Viva Tonal?

My Columbia Viva Tonal 800 was missing its START lever. I could play the machine only if I held the brake off. Now I bought a START lever, but it doesn't start the turntable. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Marc.

Finally got some help from a phonographic genius and he was able to fix the Columbia Viva Tonal motor, which is a bit more complicated that a Brunswick or a Victrola. He did a combination of things to get it working which are a bit too complicated to repeat here. But it works now!!!!!!
