I like the statements on page two:
"Queer, piping tones peculiar to phonographs and the puppets of a Punch and Judy show."

and referring to playback of a trumpet recording:

"Owing, however, to the crank being turned by hand instead of by clock-work, and the consequent irregularity of the motion, the key was changed, and many discords and false intonations were introduced that caused Levy (the soloist)to writhe in his chair, and sent shudders through the audience."
