WANTED: RECORD CYLINDER STORAGE BOXES - REPRO IS FINE
Does anyone make reproduction / new storage boxes for record cylinders? I have aprox. 200 Edison and other brand record cylinders that have no boxes at all. I bought a large (loose) lot several years ago and discarded quite a few, but these 200 or so records all play very well and have decent plaster, yet I need something to protect and store them in. I don't need "vintage", new is fine.

Re: WANTED: RECORD CYLINDER STORAGE BOXES - REPRO IS FINE
Mr. Walters is a good choice for Blue Amberol, Lambert,Columbia indestructible records boxes. I do not know of anyone making Gold Moulded, Columbia Wax, or Amberol boxes, would be nice if they did, with a lining, or even spiral tubes for the centers. I did have a box company make me similar boxes to that of the Gold Moulded, and it was reasonable with paper caps. It seems there are a lot of companies in Ohio that make spiral tubes with caps, and can make telescoping like the green Amberol boxes or the old time paper caps like Gold Moulded records. You can mount quilt batting to cardboard and make liners for wax cylinder boxes, or as I said when you have the boxes made, you can make a study mandrel that you could glue or staple to the bottom cap and put a mandrel inside, make the box large enough so that when you ship them, you can wrap bubble wrap around the cylinder and put it in the box, and when they arrive at your house, you take the bubble wrap off the records, and keep them on the mandrels in the center so they do not touch. I have of course used the boxes from Walmart that are intended to be for photo storage boxes, and the smaller ones will fit 6 cylinders. You can take paper towel tubes and cut them to fit about ¾ of the way into a cylinder record, space them apart and glue these to the bottom of these boxes, and print out the label of what kind of records you like, make some new record tickets up and you can then either cut the title out and put it over the spindle in the record. Also you can paste the record slips to the top of the box, and number the pegs with the template someone has on a website, with peg numbers and have the record slips match the numbers of the pegs. If you have 100 or less cylinders you could make a nice wall shelf that would fit these boxes two high and make quite an organized collection, with an index system to the numbers and titles, there is a little label window on the front of each box.
