Goldring portable gramophone?

Just bought this. Seemed like a nice challenge to restore. It has a plastic Goldring badge which has been reglued, but I am assuming it is the original badge, therefore it is a Goldring machine. The motor is a Garrard No.20.

Just hoping to verify what it is, and find out it's age?

I've never seen or heard of a whole machine made by Goldring, only soundboxes. That doesn't mean of course that they didn't make them. I must admit to being a bit sceptical about the plastic badge for a machine of this vintage, but I suppose it could have been made as late as the 1950s, in which case plastic would be feasible, but I still have a feeling that badge came from something else. The brown Garrard turntable seemed to be used a lot in the 50's, as did those particular lid catches, both used by Decca on their range of portables at that time. The only machines that I know used that pattern of arm were "Antoria" and "National Bond". Maybe they had some connection with Goldring?

I hope we're going to see pictures of the finished job? It has the potential to be a nice little machine.

Can I see some sort of circular trademark or model no. right at the bottom of the lid, just above the needle pot in your picture?

That circle is just the flash bouncing off the needle pot. The soundbox says "Made in England", as does the underside of the tonearm base (only found this when I removed the tone arm to start fixing the case. No other branding I can see.

I will post photos if I think I manage to do a good job. This morning I removed the cloth covering from the wooden case, and replaced the ply top and bottom (it had started to split from moisture ingress). About to glue it all back together.

I don't know. It says "Made in England" on the back. The back is black painted pot metal I think. The front is chrome/nickel plated, held on with 3 screws (you can see the style in the photo).

Goldring soundboxes are always marked , unless the logo has dropped off wich does happen to the ones which were "badged" for other users , is there a witness mark of something missing from the soundbox face , ? If so I may have one you could replace it with !

That does look like a Goldring soundbox. Here's one I have.

It looks closest to orchorsol's photo, but the centre is smooth (no logo). Also the soundbar is flat, not round, and the pivot adjusting screws are flush with the outside rim, not raised (the flat soundbar does a 90 degree turn to attached to the needle holder)

Will try to photograph it and post.
