Victor Model D

Post by rgordon939 »

Can anyone identify this machine. Is it an original Victor Model D, or has it been painted by someone?

The picture is way too small, but it's definitely not a Victor D.

I agree. The horn does look like a Victor 24B.

That looks like the Vernis Martin machine that was sold at Estes Auctions in Ohio this morning for $12K.

Just for info: Here a bigger pic from the Estes Auction. Is this a unique piece or are others like this known?

I'm no expert on either custom cabinets or Vernis Martin finishes, but I suspect it's pretty unique. And the hammer price would seem to have confirmed that. I think most of the customized Douglas cabinets were for Victrolas, weren't they? There were several bidders on the phone, and I believe the phonograph went to one of them. The bidding in the house topped out at about $6K.

What a beautiful looking Victor "custom". This is a machine that may have also had a Victor #10 reproducer as a standard part. I thought it was a Brass 24B horn. The selling price clearly dictates it's rarity.

There was a Victor ID Tag mounted next to the motor and the auction house said it was a model "D". What a price!!!
