I got this horn with my Edison Standard and something looks a little fishy about it

Does this look like an older reproduction to you? If it is then who would you suggest that sells nice and new reproductions.

Please note the soldering where the brass bell meets the cone.

looks nice and old and original to me ! But what do I know ?

IF it is Edison and original, it should say 'patent applied for' or something similar just above the seam where the bell meets the body.

And is the neck soldered on or rolled as part of the body?, if it is soldered it is probably repro.

But saying that, it could be original but just from a different maker

The Repro horns I have seen have a different bell shape !

It looks like an old reproduction to me. The concentric spin lines on the brass bell are a sure sign.

Not all original horns have information stamped into them - in fact I'd say that most don't.

Not all original horns have "PAT APLD FOR" on them. Some have no stampings and some have TCoT (Tea Tray Co) oval logo stamped on them in the same place where the PAT APLD FOR stamping was.

My guess here is the cone is original but the brass bell is not. The quality of brass on the bell doesn't look original. You can see the spin marks which were made during it's manufacture. Original brass bells are very smooth with no spin marks. None of these types of horns had the brass bell and the cone soldered together. They were rolled like a soup can.

Correction: I for got to add that if the small end is rolled, not a soldered tube on the end, then it was most likely original. Cannot tell from the photo.

Now does anyone have any thoughts on where to buy a new and nice (ding and scratch free) reproduction, or maybe even a real nice original?

Ron Sitko sells nice reproductions with shaped ends (not soldered). His phone number is (518)371-8549. He has no website.

Keep the one you have bought with the machine it is history of the machine if you buy an origainal horn it won't be the one the machoine came with so what's the difference ? Does it look OK ?

Normally, I'd be posting that advice, but when it comes to replacing a reproduction horn, I'd just document it and happily replace it with one that I like better. As long as we know that the "new" horn came from someplace else, then I really wouldn't worry too much about it.
