Goldring portable restored

Post by windup »

I have been working hard on that little portable I posted a pic of a while back. It really is a Goldring. I even acquired a second one, almost identical, this time with a Goldring branded sound box (which I still need to fix up).

Anyway, here's the before and after photos.

That's a wonderful job. you should be proud of yourself!
What is the little bit underneath the trademark in the lid, please?

I looks really nice. Did you recover it, or stain and finish the underlying wood?

Thanks. I am not sure what it is. It is a bit of the same material as the logo itself, and it was there on the gramophone when I got it (you can see it in the original photo), so I stuck it back in the same place. I figured, maybe, it was meant to be there ?

Thank you. I have been enjoying playing a few records on it, but I don't have many needles (have ordered a box, should arrive Friday).

It is very loud. I thought it wouldn't be, as the internal horn is small (I think they skimped a bit on the design), but I am happy with the sound.

I stained and finished the wood, after replacing all the ply top and bottom, and the motor board.

I figured, in the future, if I wanted, I could still attempt covering it. However, the dark chocolate walnut, with a satin finish, looks quite good I think. It has retained the 'old' feel of it.

Agree. It is quite handsome.
