New member and New Phono

Hi Everyone, I have been lurking on the site for the last few weeks trying to soak in as much info as I can !! I never knew about having to change needles after every play nor all of the adjustments and workings of the machines...You dont see that kind of stuff in the movies !! Anyway I have been given a Silvertone Parisian Phonograph that plays well. I plan on giving it a good cleaning. I have bought The Compleat Talking Machine book to help me. My question is about these two wooden brackets that are to the left of the turn table. Does anyone know what these are used for ?

Hi, the wood brackets are for holding a record while another is playing. Some Victor Orthophonic machines have these. Mike

Hi Brezzer68...Welcome!

I'm not sure if this is correct for your Silvertone but I think it
would be a good idea to cover the screw heads on those brackets with
four small round felt pads so your records don't get accidentally damaged by the wood.

I know Orthophonics had those pads..for good reason.

Looks like you are off to a good start. The book you have has some great tips and instructions. I've got an Ortho machine with and without the brackets and they sure come in handy if you play it much. Welcome and start making room for more machines!

When you get a chance, we'd enjoy seeing some overall photos of your Silvertone Parisian. It's not a model that turns up frequently, and the various machines that were marketed to compete with Victor's popular Orthophonic line are interesting.

Late 1920's - made to look very much like Victor Orthophonic machines, but without the special horns.

Here are some more pics of my Parisian as requested . I cannot find much info about it, but I did find a post on another forum stating that it was listed in the 1927 Sears Fall/Winter catalog for $68.00

Silvertones were made by Sears and sold via catalogs, FWIW

That is much nicer looking than most Truphonic Silvertones I've seen.
