The winding gear on the mainspring shaft is turning on my Edison home. How were they attached and can it be repaired by brazing the gear to the shaft? All help appreciated.

Re: edison home long case winding shaft question
If it is the small gear on the winding shaft, the taper pin might have sheared off, it has a taper pin on the lower diameter part. If it is the large winding gear, then you spring is broken on the center arbor, or become unhooked. If it is the small winding gear, you can drive out what is left of the pin,(be careful it is tapered) with a small brass drift punch, best to heat the part some with a propane torch,be careful not to hit too hard or you can break the frame, or get the cast iron too hot, in fact if you can press the pin off it is best. You can purchase a new one at any of the phonograph part suppliers.

found and fixed, but took me a long time to find where the pin was and to put in another one. Thanks for the help!
