January Orlando Phonograph show

Post by PHONOMIKE »

Has anyone here gone to it? How is it or how would you say it compares to something like the Union show?

Has anyone been there?
What's it like or compare to?
I don't want to book a week off work and make the trip without knowing what to expect.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Mike,
If you go to Phono Jacks web site, that is www.phonojack.com you will see on the bottom left of his home page a category for shows etc. Click in there and you will find several videos of past Phonograph shows including some from Orlando. These videos will give you a good idea of the size of the show and what variety of machines turn up.

Wow. Thanks for the Phonojack link, very much enjoyed the tour of the 2011 Orlando show. Even recognized a few familiar faces in the group. It's a great reminder why I've never gone to any of the big shows----I'd burn through a very large chunk of cash VERY fast!

I've been to several of the shows, and must say that I DID burn through chunks of cash with no regrets at all! Memories of filling shopping bags with cylinders (the-more-the-cheaper), boxes of dealer-stock 14inch Pathé discs, accepted offers of my last little cash for awesome phonos, and even sleeping in the van the night before (to save $) are priceless.

Being stranded on Interstate-81 all night with nobody stopping to help me, not so good. (that was before cellphones)... the brakes dying near Cleveland, also not wonderful - I fixed 'em myself, in a KMart parking lot! But still, I doubt you'll regret any show you attend.

It is a "Must-Go" show!...especially if you live on the East Coast.

Hope someone will post pics of this year's show. Local members, including me, were hosting the winter meeting of the Southeast Chapter of the Musical Box Society here in my area last weekend and so I did not get to go, although I really wanted to be there. Working on getting up the courage to make the very long haul to Union in June. Thinking about the show in Charlotte the end of February, but sometimes the weather in that part of the country that time of year can be pretty ugly!

Here is a short video that I made early Saturday morning at the Orlando show. I recorded it on my phone so I apologize for the quality. stephen
