Favorite Cylinders.

I collect Blue Amberol cylinders and I thought maybe you other collectors have some cylinders you would like to recommend to others. Not only BA's but all types of cylinders.

Billy Murray's cylinders are always good, his duets with Ada Jones are some of the best you can get of early recording duets in my opinion. Collins & Harlan is also records you can't go wrong with.

The cylinders I have listed here are some of the best I have.

“Thanks for the Buggy Ride” is another song I know, although I cannot say that I‘ve heard the Earl Oliver version.

I can‘t say that I listen to cylinders enough to name favorites off the top of my head, but perhaps other members might wish to suggest their favorites.

Paal, that is a great list of BA's. I have Lonesome Pine and yes! we have no bannanas. I love both of these. I think I would add "Whispering" by the Green Bros Novelty Orchestra.

It would be difficult to assemble a list of favorite cylinders, not only because there are so many, but also because the list would be thrown askew by the fact that post-1915 BAs were also available on DD. If the list contained these later cylinders, it might be more accurately described as a list of favorite Edison records and not just cylinders.

How nice it would be to have been alive when the cylinders were contemporary and to be able to buy new ones in pristine condition all the time. All one's favorites would be there for the asking.

I wish I had been a kid in 1905. I would have been an angel child, performing all my chores, so I could collect my $500 weekly allowance and then run down to the local Edison dealer and buy everything I wanted.

I only have one working cylinder machine at the moment and less than 10 cylinders, but my favorite of them ends with a nice little Yankee / Dixie medley.

It would be great to live back in time when you could buy new cylinders and phonographs. It would be great to have a time machine and go back to the late 20's and buy those late and rare Blue Amberol's

You have some good ones there. Look for "Palesteena", and if you like to show off your machine marches are nice. "Stars and Sripes Forever" by Sousa's band is especially brilliant. There are many others too.

I agree; John and I had a lot of fun with Sousa’s “Liberty Bell March”, which is by far his most-watched video (with a margin of approximately 2,200 views at the moment). Although I think that a lot of the traffic on that is because of Monty Python and students in marching bands.
