The crank in my 1-2 (same machine with children's Bubble Book decoration) uses a crank with male threads. I hope this helps. Jerry Blais

If you ever try to unscrew the crank on one of these, do it somewhat gently, if possible. There is no ratchet & pawl on the winding shaft but, instead, a spring that wraps around the shaft, allowing it to turn in one direction only, (like a lot of cheaper brands used). If that spring should break, which they love to do, you'll have a heck of a time getting the crank out.
