I believe "Berlin Phonograph Works" has been making some very good reissues of 4 minute records in resin, but the selection is rather limited. It would be a blessing indeed to have new copies made of the Amberol catalogue - especially those that were never reissued on celluloid.

The City of London Phonograph and Gramophone Society (CLPGS) has commenced a series of operatic Wax Amberol re-issues in plastic, which have been favourably reviewed elsewhere on the forum.

As Epigramophone points out, the CLPGS has started to re-issue wax operatic cylinders in unbreakable resin. Our first two issues were released last year and are still available at £45.00 each (or £35.00 to CLPGS members)plus postage - full details can be found on

http://www.clpgs.org.uk/masters_series_page.htm.

Another two releases are planned for later this year.

I can't think of anyone who is re-making Amberols in wax, though.

It would be nice if someone reissued Sophie Tucker's wax Amberol performance of "Some Of These Days"on a plastic resin cylinder. That'd be a good one.I found my wax Amberol copy in a group of cylinders that I bought from a local antique dealer in Owego,NY a few years ago.I put the record on cassette tape, but I haven't played the actual record in some time.edisonplayer

Do you know what titles the two new releases will be or about when they will be available?

Sorry to be so long in my reply - I've been on holiday and by the time I returned, this thread had become buried on about page 4.

The two new CLPGS Masters Series 4 Minute cylinders will be of two two-minute Edison Grand Opera selections on each cylinder. The original recordings will be : B5: Vi Ravviso, O Luoghi from "La Sonnambula" and B32: Sortita d'Amonasro from "Aida" both sung by Antonio Scotti and B10: Toreodor's Song from "Carmen" sung by Anton Van Rooy with B41: Nobil Dama from "Gli Ugonotti" sung by Mario Ancona.
It is anticipated these will be available for sale from mid-September full details will be posted in the Autumn 2014 (September) issue of the CLPGS Magazine "For the Record" and also on the CLPGS Web site on: http://www.clpgs.org.uk/masters_series_page.htm nearer the date.

I would also like to remind all our friends that the first two issues in the CLPGS Masters series are still available although they are now getting in short supply with only 4 copies of MS1 and 3 copies of MS2 left, so get them now before they all go - details and ordering on-line via: http://www.clpgs.org.uk/masters_series_page.htm.

All the best

Take one more off the stock of 1 and 2 remaining. Just ordered 1 of each.

Regarding the technical side of the CLPGS Masters Series they were recorded on the new 'Mk.II' electric phonograph, which can be seen in my (very) amateur video on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHNcn9FRzko .

The earlier machine will be rebuilt with some modifications which hopefully will reduce wow, record backwards and allow the recording of Liorets. Wish me luck!
