WANTED: edison maroon gem reproducer carriage + gear cover

Post by obmcclintock »

I need a maroon gem reproducer carriage, I think that is what it is called. I will need for it to be complete including back half nut piece that engages the worm gear. I will also need the gear cover piece. My terminology may be incorrect and if so please let me know what they are actually called. Thanks guys !!! dave

I hope you have success finding original parts. If reproduction parts are OK, you can get the gear cover from Ron Sitko. Go to the "Links" section of the Forum and click on Repairs & Parts. The gear cover is the same for a Fireside or Gem D or E except for color. I was wondering... Is the Fireside carriage for a K reproducer the same as the Gem D only a different color? Anyone? To answer Jerry's questions about GEM/Fireside similarities. First, the GEM C and GEM D (and even GEM B's and some A's) all have the same carriage--as far as I know--except that the GEM D carriage IS painted maroon(Of course the GEM E has the special large carriage for an N reproducer). The Fireside carriage is the same--EXCEPT for the backrod piece and bearing/roller (not sure of the exact name)is longer on the Fireside. This is the piece that comes in contact with the feedscrew when the reproducer carriage is raised when changing a cylinder or moving the carriage back and forth. I used the reproducer carriage from a GEM model B on a Fireside I was restoring that was missing the reproducer carriage. The only thing I couldn't do was pound out the pin and replace it with a longer one. The bearing or roller is the same, but the pin is longer/shorter depending on the machine. I didn't want to wreck the carriage, so I left it as is. It still functions perfectly on the Fireside until a correct replacement comes along! I also bought a Fireside feedscrew and bar from Ron Sitko to put on it--so the feedscrew arrangement on the GEM versus Fireside may also be slightly different.
