Open Works Columbia Disk Machine AU

Post by Phonofreak »

I am having one heckava time getting the spindle gear and worm to mesh. I've been working on Columbia machines for many years, and never had this problem. The gears are good with no worn or broken teeth. Has anybody worked on these before, and have some tips or tricks to solve this problem? As we all know, this is not a serious machine to play lots of records. I want to get this machine functioning so it isn't a paper weight.

Well, after several hours after posting this, I finally got this to work. These open works Columbia disc machines can be difficult to work right. The secret is to raise and lower the spindle gear. Also, adjusting the stamped end plate to the right distance. It takes a lot of trial and error, but it eventually works. It was almost midnight by the time I got it working.
