HMV Restoration

Post by kropton »

It's my new restoration project, what's exactly a model of HMV ?
Paint inside the horn is original but outside is repaint.
What do you think about my restoration ?

Wow, nice job. Is this the same horn? Did you have the tonearm and back bracket re-plated, or was that nice nickel hidden under that ugly gold paint? In any case, it is a beauty now.

Yes it's the same horn, i had to removed two layer of red and gold paint from it.
In outside was five layer of paint therefore i had to repaint this side.
The tonearm is re plated, reproducer rebuilded and it's new felt on turntable.

To answer your original question, I think your machine is a German version of the Model 2, later renamed Model 20.

That is quite a labor of love, to get it down to the original paint! :)

How did you manage to get the repaint off and leave the original paint largely intact? I am impressed.

I removed red paint using wooden chisel and hair dryer to heat the horn.
It took me over 10 hours to remove all of red paint inside.
Outside paint was made similar to original in a paint shop.
I'm still waiting for a HMV decal.
