Hello Everyone:
I'm getting a little black residue on my diamond when I play some of my diamond disc records, so from what I understand its time to replace the diamond. It looks OK under a 10X loop but that's not a great deal of magnification.
My question to those with more knowledge than I have in this process. I have heard that there has been problems with the new replacement diamonds. Is this in fact so.
Would you suggest trying to find an original lower unit in good shape, or are the replacements just fine.
Your input would be appreciated
Thanks:
Paul

Re: Diamond Replacement for Edison Diamond Disc
I have had seven new diamonds and they all failed, some the first day others up to a year latter.. I would not at this time purchase a new one.. Its possible that a new source will come up as some are working on that project at this time. But that is about all I can say about it.
Some black on the stylus may be due to dirt in the grooves. If your seeing lines in the run off area after the stylus passes then chances are your going to need to different stylus. Trouble with old ones is often they look ok in the run off but are worn enough to effect the sound. Just like a steel needle eventually they begin to distort the sound an slowly harm the grooves.
