Edison Opera Phonograph with Bell Horn - Inquire

Edison Opera Phonograph with Bell Horn - in Original Condition

I am selling one Edison Opera Phonograph with the bell horn, in original unrestored condition. This antique was bought in San Francisco in the 1970s and has been carefully stored since then.

Also included in the sale are 56 Edison Amberol Recordings, listing on request from serious inquirers only. All have been well maintained, unplayed since the 1970s, and only 7 do not have the original tube covers.

Note: I recently played three amberols on the machine and it worked fine, sounds great. Since I removed the crank to open the cabinet to take the photo, I have not been able to replace it in the way that will make it play again. I assume someone with technical acumen could do so easily, but at any rate, this will be an AS IS sale.

I am located in the San Francisco bay area and would prefer for the item to be picked up. However, I will ship the item, with buyer's instructions. Buyer will be responsible for the cost of shipping.

This is a very rare and desirable model, and the price offered should reflect this. Serious inquiries only, thank you.

Susan,

All your photos show the back side of this phonograph. Can you post some pics of the front?

Susan,

You may get some serious inquires but they will reflect some major issues with your machine. The horn looks poorly repaired. Is the horn elbow a fiberglass replacement? If it's metal, it should be wood grained. The gear cover tab is broken and it's been poorly repaired. The on/off lever looks like a makeshift replacement. The auto stop bar is missing. The cabinet appears to have been refinished. The dot on the "Edison" decal appears to be rounded on top which would indicate a poor 1970's attempt at a reproduction. The paint and striping on the deck appear to need restoration.

If a nice all original Edison Opera is worth around $4500 to maybe $5000, yours should bring about half that amount in its current condition. I don't wish to offend you but you may or may not be aware of the challenges your Opera presents. It is a desirable machine and worthy of a good restoration but that costs time and money. I wish you the best with your sale.
