Alba was the brand name of A.J.Balcombe Ltd. Their gramophones were well made using bought in components, and this machine would have been at the top end of their range.
The tonearm is a Novaphonic Mammoth which Alba could have sourced from various trade suppliers.
Alba is the only former English gramophone brand name to survive into the present time. You can still buy a new Alba CD player or TV, but you can't buy a Columbia, Decca or HMV!

In it's native UK, the Sterling equivalent of $150 would not be too wide of the mark.
